Choose and connect a payment device
Understand computer and tablet checkout, a connected counter reader, and the additional requirements for Tap to Pay.

Provider gated
Managed email and text delivery is in controlled early access and remains off until the sender and delivery provider are verified.
Before you start
- A school-owned Stripe account and an enabled payment configuration.
- Internet access for the workstation and connected reader.
- Owner or manager access for reader setup. Hardware and native channels require their own verification before use.
Use one front desk workspace
Open Dojo Wizard in the browser on a Mac, PC, iPad, or compatible tablet. Students, classes, memberships, products, and Checkout use the same school workspace.
For integrated counter payment, a supported smart reader is a customer-facing accessory. Dojo Wizard sends the sale amount to it and updates the receipt after Stripe confirms the payment.
Connect a school reader
An owner or manager opens Pro shop > Card readers. Choose or add the school’s payment location, register the supported reader, and give it a useful counter name. Choose the default reader if the school has more than one.
Return to Checkout and select Tap or insert. Confirm the reader and sale amount before asking the customer to tap or insert. A simulated reader is for sandbox checks and cannot take a real payment.
Know the Apple device choices
A Mac or iPad can run the complete browser workspace and control a separate supported reader. Customers can use supported contactless cards or mobile wallets on that reader.
An iPad itself is not a Tap to Pay card reader. Tap to Pay on iPhone needs a compatible iPhone, a supported native staff app, Apple approval, merchant setup, and device testing. Opening Chrome or the member app does not enable it.
Check Android and reader-hosted availability
Native Tap to Pay on Android needs a compatible NFC phone or tablet, a supported staff app, and school/device approval. The button is shown only when that native capability is available.
Running the full Dojo Wizard app on a Stripe reader is a separate release channel that depends on Stripe Apps on Devices eligibility and app approval. Do not assume a standalone reader already includes Dojo Wizard.
A payment taken in the Stripe Dashboard app or a reader’s standalone amount-entry mode is external to the Dojo Wizard cart unless a supported integration explicitly links it. Record it as Paid elsewhere and reconcile it once.
Recover without creating another charge
If the reader is busy, offline, or interrupted, keep the existing payment on screen and use its status or cancellation controls. Do not immediately create a second sale.
Physical reader, Tap to Pay, and app-store availability are separate from a successful simulator test. Use only the channel that has been enabled and verified for your school.
Troubleshooting
If something looks wrong
Can the browser take a tap directly on my phone?
No. Use a connected smart reader, or a compatible native staff app with Tap to Pay enabled. The member app is for students and guardians.
Can this reader flow collect while offline?
The browser-controlled reader flow requires internet access. Wait for a confirmed payment result or use the school’s approved alternate method.
Can I use any existing POS terminal?
Only a supported integration can share the cart, payment outcome, and receipt automatically. A separate terminal can still be recorded as Paid elsewhere after you verify its payment.
Keep going
