Change your school timezone safely

Update the school default while preserving the local time of future recurring classes and the evidence already attached to each occurrence.

Available now

This workflow is available in the live web product. Follow the documented data controls and keep appropriate operational backups.

Before you start

  • Owner or manager access.
  • The correct IANA timezone for the school, such as America/New_York.
  • A quick review of which recurring classes use the school default and which are assigned to a branch.
1

Separate the school default from branch timezones

A recurring class without a location uses the school default timezone. A class assigned to a branch uses that location’s timezone instead.

Changing the school default intentionally leaves location-backed schedules alone because the branch setting takes priority.

Open Locations
2

Enter and save the correct timezone

Under Gym default timezone, enter a recognized IANA name and choose Save timezone. Use a region name rather than a fixed offset so daylight-saving changes are handled correctly.

Wait for the visible “Timezone updated” confirmation before leaving the page.

Watch out: Do not use abbreviations such as EST or a fixed UTC offset. Use a value such as America/New_York, America/Chicago, or America/Phoenix.
3

Understand what the update changes

Future generated recurring sessions without a branch are rematerialized at the same local clock time in the new timezone. Their canonical occurrence IDs remain intact.

Past sessions remain history. Existing attendance, member reservations, booking audit events, and preserved occurrence records are not discarded.

4

Verify the pages staff and members use

Open Classes and confirm the next few recurring occurrences. Then review a lead follow-up time and an invited member portal schedule if those workflows are in use.

The rematerialization applies only to future generated recurring sessions without a branch. Review upcoming one-off classes and private lessons separately because they are not rebuilt by this recurring-template process.

Troubleshooting

If something looks wrong

Why was the timezone rejected?

Use a valid IANA timezone such as America/Los_Angeles. Abbreviations and many informal place names are not valid scheduling timezones.

Why did one branch keep its previous class time?

Classes assigned to a location use that branch’s timezone. The gym default changes only future recurring sessions that have no location.
